Overhead crane
certification FAQs

How long does overhead crane certification take?
Our on-site overhead crane course runs about a half-day — roughly 6 hours including the hands-on practical. We confirm exact timing by crew size when you book.
How much does overhead crane certification cost?
$150 per operator. On-site group bookings, added rigging/hoisting modules, and Train-the-Trainer programs are quoted per project — request a quote with your crew size and location.
Is overhead crane certification required in Alberta?
Yes. Alberta OHS requires that crane operators be trained and proven competent, and employers must keep documented training and evaluation records. AFSC training is built to CSA crane standards, giving you the proof OHS officers look for.
Does the course cover rigging and hand signals?
Yes — operators learn hoisting and rigging, slinging and hitches, standard hand signals, load charts, and pre-use inspection alongside safe crane operation.
How long is overhead crane certification valid?
Three years. Operators receive a certificate and wallet card on successful completion, and re-certify every three years.
Do you provide overhead crane training on-site, and where?
Yes — on-site at your facility across Alberta (including Calgary, Edmonton, and Red Deer), British Columbia, and throughout Western Canada, so your crew certifies on the cranes they actually operate.
